Well this is something it just started doing yesterday.

You know how the screen goes off when you hold it up to your ear to save battery life?
Well, now mine doesn't turn the screen back on when I pull it away from my ear. Which is a pain in the butt, because if I am checking my voicemail and I need to bring up the dialpad so I can erase some message, I can't. I have tried aiming it at the sun, and it comes on then. So maybe it's just that the sensor is not working as well as it used to. I don't know. But I was just starting to like this phone again and now this happens.

the screen isn't activated by light, it uses the mesh in the clear flip to detect your head or any other object touching it. make sure nothing is touching the flip- sometimes your finger can activate it and keep the display dark on a call. you can also press a side key to wake up the display

Wow, I didn't know that's how it worked. I just called voicemail to test it, that is really cool how they did that.

It was always hit or miss for me whether the screen would turn on without pressing the menu or power buttons.

I'll be darned. Thanks for the info.
I guess when I held it toward the sun, I just coincidentally wasn't touching the flip.

That helps a lot. Thanks!

Well, that wasn't the problem afterall. I have been calling my wife and got her voicemail and want to press * to skip all the junk and get to the part where I leave my message. To press * I first have to unlock the phone by doing the little slidey thing, then bring up the dialpad, then press *. That is complicated and inconvenient enough when it works properly.

Problem is when I pull the phone away from my ear, the screen is still blank. I have made absolute certain that I am not touching the flip or the touchscreen in any way. That wasn't it. Then I tried pressing the volume button thinking that would wake it up, but no.

This is such a pain. It happens when I'm checking my voicemail too. I need to press 7 to delete my messages, and can't.

I'm done with this phone.
It was a dumb mistake, an impulse buy. I should've done more research. I blame myself.
The coolness of this phone is not worth all the inconvenience. I can text much faster on my old RAZR V3c than I can with this phone. And if it weren't for the crappy camera I'd still be using that phone instead of this one.

Fortunately I still have my last phone (a MotoRIZR Z6tv) and I've already activated it again, and put the Krave on the shelf never to be used again. I completely wasted my upgrade, and I'm irritated about that. But I'll get over it. I'll do more research next time before I buy my next phone. And I'll spend more time in the store playing with the phone before I buy it. And I think I'm done with touchscreen phones alltogether. They are cool, but they are just not practical. I've never accidentally hit the wrong button on my MotoRIZR Z6tv. Never! But I accidentally hit wrong buttones everytime I use my Krave. It's so annoying. If I do get a touchscreen phone again, it will have to at least have "send," "end" and "clear" buttons.

When I am in my voicemail with my present phone now and want to press * or 7, all I have to do is press * or 7. That's it!!!! No sliding the lock thingy, no pressing the dailpad button. The buttons are just there, and you can press them whenever you want to. Ultimately a cellphone is supposed to be a device that saves you time and simplifies things for you. The Krave makes even the simplest tasks on a normal phone very complicated.

Sorry to bash this phone on this forum. But I really think people need to read this stuff before deciding to buy one. I wish I had read more of this stuff. I wouldn't have wasted my money.

I gave this thing plenty of chances to impress me and it failed everytime. I got the software update. And I used the thing for a month or so. Plenty of time to get used to all the functions and controls. It's just not a good phone.

I'm with you 100%. I still have my old Razr, but I just keep giving my Krave more time. I got it in December and still hate almost everything about it. But I keep holding on to it- I wasted my upgrade too, so I feel like I have to give this krave time LOL

I don't understand the problems everyones having. Is an impulsive return better than an impulsive buy? You can disable the key sliding, first off. Secondly you may have a defective phone. Try doing a factory reset, and if that does not solve the problem, get it replaced. If you are still having problems then perhaps choose a different phone.

I have tried disabling the autolock feature. When I had it disabled I kept accidentally pressing buttons with my cheek as I talked on the phone. That's not a solution.

I don't think my phone is defective. And half of the reasons I dislike it is because of how complicated it is to do just even the simplest tasks. Not that I can't figure out how to do these things. Just that it takes too many steps.

This is not an impulse return (I wish I could return it). I have used this thing for almost two months. I have used texting, phone calls, internet, VZNavigator, played games, taking pictures, recording video. I have put this phone through it's paces and seen enough to know I don't like it. Even in games the inaccurate touchscreen was very annoying. I was playing Bookworm and I saw the word "teacher" after I hit the "h" it finished the word because apparently it though I double tapped the "h" when I didn't. This stupid phone cost me like 40 points. And that's only one example. lol

Well I have given mine all the time it's gonna get. I thought like you did for a while, and I even de-activated it, and then later said "I'll give it another try" and re-activated it again. But I keep getting annoyed by it. I am a techy person, and I love gadgets. I use my phone a lot for many things, games, taking pictures, making calls, texting, internet, email, Navigation, etc. And I want a phone I enjoy using. That is how I felt about my old phone (the one I'm using again now) my MOTO slider phone. It's a joy to use, and I'll just keep using it until my next new every 2 comes up.

I sold my Krave to one of my coworkers for $20 yesterday. lol  The poor sucker.
I told him he could try it out for a week or two before paying me if he wanted. But he used it for about a day and payed me the next morning.

If you ask me the phone isn't worth even $20.
I gave him a wall charger and a car charger and a USB cable with it. So I don't feel so bad for charging him that much. lol

A phone can't please all of the people all of the time. I've been using my Krave daily since November and still love it. I too also used a Mot slider (Z6tv) and Krave outperforms it in just about every way- bigger screen, qwerty, html browser, visual voicemail etc. I don't know how I would go back (wait I know... forced, kicking & screaming).
Touch isn't for everyone... ya gotta try before ya buy.

I don't care if it pleases all people. I just want it to please me.
And I did try before I bought.

I didn't say the Z6tv had more or better features than the Krave. I said I enjoy using it more.
Mainly because of the simplicity. Because of the physical buttons.

It's not that I hate touchscreens. I had an LG Dare before the Krave, and I loved the way it worked. But it was designed better. When you are doing certain tasks if the dialpad would be something you might need, then it was already on the screen, and you didn't need to push any buttons to bring it up. When you put the phone up to your ear and it turns the screen off, it also disables the touchscreen part so you don't accidentally press buttons with your cheek. When you start writing a text message it starts out with the first letter capitalized. And not to mention there are physical send and clear buttons.

These are all small details but they add up.

The reason I didn't keep the Dare is because it wouldn't hold up to the way I use it. It wouldn't take long before the screen would be all scratched up. And it didn't seem sturdy enough. The Krave had a clear flip to protect it's screen, and it seemed more sturdy as well. That's why I went for it. I thought touch screens are all alike. They aren't!

I know my Z6tv has a smaller screen, no qwerty, no visual voicemail, etc.

1. I don't need a qwerty. I'd bet a paycheck I can text faster on my Z6tv with iTap than you can with your qwerty. And I type extremely well on a real qwerty keyboard so it's not like I have to hunt and peck.
2. I haven't noticed that the browser wouldn't do anything the Krave would do. But all I really use the browser for is to check my Yahoo mail.
3. Visual voicemail sounds about like a clear touch-flip, cool but useless.
4. I am willing to sacrifice a the larger screen to not have to use the Krave.
5. The camera on the Z6tv is just as good as the Krave. They are both 2.0 mega-pixel with no flash.

I really wish that Samsung Trance had been out when I bought this Krave. That is more up my alley.

I have the same problem!!!

I move the phone away from my face to get the dialpad to show up again, it used to work (sporadically) but now that doesn't work at all!

This is truly a pain when dialing customer service and when you have to press the dialpad to make selections.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Thank you!
